CALIFORNIA SUPREME COURT RULES 4-3 IN FAVOR OF MARRIAGE! - The Supreme Court struck down laws that prevent the freedom to marry.  Gov. Schwarzenegger said he would respect the court's ruling and reiterated his opposition to the proposed constitutional amendment. See our press release here.  If we defeat the amendment in November, everything will be done in California and we can get the GOP to start talking about lowering taxes, reducing government and increasing public safety -- the things Repubicans used to win elections on.

Governor Schwarzenegger Comes Out Against Anti-Marriage Amendment - Last weekend, at the national Log Cabin Republican Convention, the Governor called a marriage amendment "a waste of time" and stated he will be there to fight it. See the moment here on video at YouTube.

2008 LEGISLATION - Here is a listing of the legislation thus far that Log Cabin is tracking and our current position on each bill. 2008 Legislation

OPPOSE SB 1322 - COMMUNISM BY SEN. LOWENTHAL - Log Cabin Republicans went on record in opposition to SB 1322, which seeks to remove prohibitions on teaching Communism for purposes of indoctrinization in public schools as well as removing the findings from the law that Communism is a totalitarian dictatorship. The Revolutionary Communist Party had a stated goal to "eliminate [homosexuality]" until 2001.   Contact your legislators to tell them to oppose this bill that is a slap in the face to Log Cabin veterans.
Read our letter and get information on the bill.

LOG CABIN ENDORSES RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS.
Log Cabin notified Assemblyman Benoit and the GOP Assembly Caucus that it endorsed
AJR 46 regarding the right to bear arms for self defense; noting that gays and lesbians are the victims of hate crimes and this will provide a measure of self defense.

LOG CABIN RESPONSE TO PASSAGE OF THE MARRIAGE EQUALITY BILL:

“We’re encouraged by the show of support for marriage equality by the people of California as expressed through their representatives.  This is another milestone in the ongoing discussion with California voters on this important topic.  We are mindful that a decision is pending from the California Supreme Court on this matter next year as well and would prefer that the Court had weighed in first so that the Legislature could implement or respond to the court decision.  Governor Schwarzenegger has expressed his personal support for marriage equality in the past and we encourage him to continue in dialogue with Log Cabin Republicans on this important issue to address his concerns about how marriage equality is to be achieved.”
James Vaughn, Director - California Log Cabin Republicans

Gov. Schwarzenegger Wants You!
Seeking the best and brightest, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is recruiting Californians for appointment to state boards and commissions. Log Cabin is assisting by recruiting our best and brightest for consideration. More than 30 have stepped forward and are currently being vetted. If you would like to be considered for an appointment, please contact James Vaughn at jvaughn@logcabin.org.
