(Washington, DC) – Log Cabin Republicans are gravely concerned by newly released jobs numbers showing yet another increase in unemployment and the economy barely creating jobs for the second consecutive month.
“Hope still isn’t hiring. The official unemployment rate is 9.2 percent, up from 9.1 percent in May. The real unemployment rate has reached a staggering 16.2 percent. Under President Obama’s failed leadership, it’s not getting better; it’s getting worse,” said R. Clarke Cooper, Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director. “Log Cabin Republicans know that the economy will only get better when we make it better, by untying the hands of job creators and sending a clear message to the private sector that Washington is ready to get out of the way. At 9.2 percent unemployment, America needs to make a U-turn onto the path to prosperity. Unfortunately, given this president’s blindness to the plight of unemployed Americans, real change may not come until Barack Obama is looking for a new job himself.”
For comparison, under President Clinton unemployment averaged 5.2 percent and under President George W. Bush the rate was 5.3 percent. |
