Hours ago, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) put out an inflammatory parody ad trying to smear Log Cabin Republicans-endorsed gay GOP congressional candidate Carl DeMaio with the offensive caption “When I Say Gay Rights I Don’t Mean Actual Rights.” In response, Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director Gregory T. Angelo issued the following statement:

This appalling ad is completely disingenuous and shows that in the wake of rising poll numbers for DeMaio, all that the DCCC can do is resort to callous and misleading smears to prop up the floundering campaign of Scott Peters. Carl DeMaio has declared his support for marriage equality right on his website, featured his partner prominently in a campaign video, and has stated that he supports federal legislation that prohibits workplace discrimination against the LGBT community. Rather than blast DeMaio — who had a 100% perfect pro-LGBT voting record while he was on the San Diego City Council — the DCCC would do better to spend its time and money encouraging carpetbaggers like Sean Eldridge and reality TV stars like Clay Aiken to acknowledge their sexual orientation on the campaign trail rather than run from it.
