Log Cabin Republicans President Charles Moran released the following statement ahead of Tuesday’s House vote on the Respect for Marriage Act:

“While we do not buy into the Democrats’ election year fear-mongering that Obergefell is in danger of being overturned and are disappointed by the short-circuited process with which House Democrats brought the Respect for Marriage Act to the floor, LGBT conservatives have nevertheless always believed that laws should come from the legislature, not the courts. Accordingly, we strongly urge House Republicans to vote for the Respect for Marriage Act to strengthen civil rights, enshrine marriage equality into federal law, and properly reflect the vast majority of Americans, including Republicans, who support same-sex marriage. Democrats, desperate to deflect from the disastrous leadership of the Biden-Harris Administration, are trying to use this election year vote to paint the GOP as out of step with the rest of the country. There are critical fights to be had in the coming months on issues like the Left’s assault on Title IX and gender identity lessons in kindergarten classrooms, but Republican voters increasingly agree marriage equality is not one of them.”
