|(Washington, DC) – Log Cabin Republicans respond to President Obama’s April 13th speech on the government deficit.“The president’s speech is a U-turn away from the path to prosperity put forward by Congressman Ryan and the Republican leadership to reduce government spending and encourage job creation,” said R. Clarke Cooper, Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director. “Despite all evidence, the President is still clinging to the idea that we can tax and spend our way out of a challenging economy, and his vague wish list of deficit reductions was anything but a plan. For example, what President Obama disingenuously calls ‘spending reductions in the tax code’ amount to trillions of dollars in tax hikes on families and small business owners. American voters have rejected ‘stimulus’ spending binges, and strongly support last week’s bipartisan budget agreement. Spending cuts proposed by House Republicans sent a welcome signal to job creators that Washington is serious about supporting private sector economic growth. The president’s proposal would to put that message in reverse, further delaying economic recovery, and should be firmly rejected.”
