Log Cabin Republicans President Charles Moran released the following statement:
“For decades, qualified patriotic gay and lesbian Americans were denied the ability to secure high-level security clearances and provide a vital role for the defense and protection of the nation purely due to the threat of blackmail due to their sexual orientation. The actions of Sam Brinton have disappointedly revived the shame and scrutiny that underlie it. He is an embarrassment to our community. As a career professional at the Department of Energy handling some of our nation’s top nuclear secrets, his now double felony charges have compromised his ability to act in such a trusted capacity. Sam Brinton should resign and his security clearance should be revoked immediately. It is time that this sad side-show conclude.”
